Student Support System

Student Support System

The IPS Counselling Programme is built upon the “International Model for School Counselling Programs,” developed by Fezler and Brown in 2011, with insights from international school counsellors worldwide.

This model provides a framework for creating effective school counselling programs tailored to international schools’ unique contexts and needs. The primary goal of the IPS Counselling Programme is to ensure that every student can fully benefit from its support.

AT IPS WE BELIEVE:

  • In fostering the holistic development of each child.
  • That every student has the capacity and potential to learn, grow, and change with the right support and opportunities.
  • That all students should feel safe, supported, and accepted.
  • In celebrating diversity and supporting our students’ personal and cultural identity.

THE IPS COUNSELLING PROGRAMME:

  • Is comprehensive in scope and developmental in nature.
  • Addresses all students’ academic, career, personal, and social needs in a global context.
  • Supports the IPS school mission.
  • Incorporates Personal, Social, Health, and Economic (PSHE) education based on the National Curriculum for England.
  • Aim to meet each student’s needs, considering their unique combination of needs, traditions, culture, and abilities.
  • Utilises relevant data to guide programme decisions and development, and monitor student achievement.
  • Requires continual review and revision to meet the evolving needs of the school.

THE IPS COUNSELLOR:

  • Advocates for every student.
  • Collaborates with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and community members whenever possible.
  • Is responsible for planning, designing, coordinating, and evaluating the school counselling programme with input from stakeholders (e.g. staff, parents, students, and the community).
  • Champions educational reform with input from stakeholders.
  • Has access to current resources and professional development.
  • Provides input for the integration of PSHE education throughout the school.

Learning Support

A Learning Support Coordinator and teachers are dedicated to supporting students with special educational needs throughout their time at IPS

The majority of students’ needs will be met within the classroom. Teachers are expected to make every effort to ensure that students with special educational needs fully engage in class activities. Some students may need to work in small groups or receive additional support to help them stay focused on tasks and complete activities within the allotted time.
