How to Apply to International Pioneers School Bangkok

Choosing a school is a big step, and the application process should feel clear from the start. IPS welcomes applications throughout the year for Kindergarten 1 to Year 13, across both the Krungthonburi and Bangkhae campuses. Here is how our international school admission procedure works at IPS, from your first school visit to your child’s first day.

Our International School Admission Procedure

Applications for admission will be considered throughout the year for Kindergarten (K1) to Year 13 (Y13).

Placement Test

Students are tested on their literacy and numeracy skills, according to age and year level.

Application Review

Our Admissions Committee reviews the assessment results and previous school records in accordance with the school’s admission and enrolment criteria for our British-curriculum school.

Decision

The school informs the applicant’s parents as to whether or not they may enrol their child.

International Pioneers School Bangkok: A Step-by-Step Guide to Apply

Parents visit the school to gather information about the school and its curriculum. During the school tour, parents get a firsthand look at the school, its facilities, and the classrooms.

Parents are informed when the student(s) must take a placement test to assess their competence in English and Mathematics. The placement test is free of cost.

  • For K2 to Y6, applicants must achieve at least 60% on the placement test.
  • For Y7 to Y10, applicants must achieve at least 70% on the placement test.

All Candidates must purchase the official IPS Application Form at the School Admissions Office and submit the completed form with the following Thailand school admission documents. The checklist is below:

  1. Three passport-size photos of the applicant with the full name printed on the reverse.
  2. Copies of parents’ passports and visas or Thai national ID cards (for Thai Nationals).
  3. Copies of the child’s passport and visa or the child’s birth certificate and Thai national ID card (if available).
  4. Copy of parents’ work permit (for non-Thai nationals).
  5. Copy of health certificate, certifying that the child is free of any significant physical, mental and emotional issues.
  6. Copies of previous school records, report cards and a transfer certificate translated into English and certified in English (for Elementary level, records/report cards from the past two years will be required, whereas for the Secondary level, records/report cards from the past three years will be required).

Parents of prospective students must complete the full application form with all the above documentation before the Admissions Committee is able to review the application.

Our admissions committee will review the application in accordance with the school’s admissions criteria. Factors taken into account include:

– Age of applicant

– Class size

– English language proficiency. In case the child is found to be weak in English, the student must join ESL (English as Second Language) or English Support classes instead of mainstream English classes, for at least one year.

– Previous school records

– Siblings already enrolled in the school

– Nationality and ethnicity

– Admissions assessment results and academic ability

– Involvement in school life beyond the academic programme, i.e. extracurricular activities

– Learning and social behaviour

– Interview result

– Placement test results

The school reserves the right to decline an application if the student does not meet the criteria above.

The assessments consider the student’s age and year level, and appropriate literacy and numeracy skills. After reviewing the assessment results and school records, the school admissions team will decide whether the applicant may register.

Please note that the evaluation assessment materials and the results of the assessment are confidential and are considered to be the property of the school; parents will not be entitled to the original or a copy.

Families will be notified as soon as possible of the admission decision, and it is after this notification that actual registration may take place. Once a place has been offered, families have a limited period, which will be specified by the school, in which to accept it. If the place is accepted families must supply the following:

– Registration fee

– Development fee

– Tuition fees and deposit must be paid within two weeks of the date of acceptance or the child may lose his or her seat/place.

– All fees must be paid prior to the first day of school attendance.

Admission to the school does not guarantee student enrolment beyond the initial year, which will be dependent on the maintenance of satisfactory levels of progress and behaviour.

Class groups are established at the school’s discretion.
